Jennifer and Ugonna got traditionally hitched during the weekend. The duo held their igba nkwu ceremony at Ogidi in Anambra state.
How we met: Ugonna and I first met in Enugu, when he was playing for Rangers Football Club 5 years ago
How he asked: Ugonna lives in South Africa where he plays professional football and I was visiting him from Nigeria.
My plane arrived on a Tuesday 3rd May 2016 evening in South Africa 15 minutes earlier than expected. Since our relationship was long distance and I often would fly to South Africa, I was expecting the usual text message I would get from Ugonna that he arrived at the airport and would be waiting for me in his car. That evening, I didn’t receive his text and assumed it was because my flight had arrived early.
I got off the plane and made my way toward baggage claim. To my surprise I noticed Ugonna was waiting for me at the waiting area leading toward baggage claim rather than outside in his car. I didn’t think twice about it and greeted him as usual, exhausted from the trip and hoping to get some rest very soon.
While walking toward the crowded baggage claim, I noticed a random guy video recording us with his smartphone. I asked Ugonna why he was doing that and Ugonna dismissed it. Exhausted I just wanted to get my baggage and sleep. What I didn’t know at the time was that the entire baggage claim was taping us with their smartphones because they could see what I couldn’t; and that was cameras positioned for a very a romantic serenade and proposal. I was oblivious to it all.
Becoming even more suspicious, I began to ask Ugonna what was going on, but he kept dismissing me. I began to catch on and quickly turned around to take one good look at my surroundings to find two other guys with their phones and a baggage claim full of spectators armed with their smartphones video recording my every moment. I really couldn’t believe what was happening. Before I knew it, One thing led to the next and Ugonna was on one knee asking for my hand in marriage with a beautiful diamond ring. It was like a scene straight out of a movie except I couldn’t have written that script any better. I said YES! I couldn’t believe what was happening. God was really making “All Things New” through this relationship.
